Beautiful Article, makes me want to go to upstate New York! This also makes me want to give Riesling another try. I have always found it "too sweet" also! Maybe give us some labels to try?
Cool. Yes, try Willamette Valley Dry Riesling ($25). Fess Parker has one out of Santa Barbara ($25), and Pacific Rim (available locally in So. Utah) is a best buy at $11. The nicest I've had are German, but it's hard to know if they are dry unless you can read up on them. Peter Lehmann Wigan Riesling, Eden Valley, out of Australia is good. And then Hermann Wiemar in the Finger Lakes from the article.
