You Must Believe in Spring
The sun is setting on the perfect day here in Southern Utah. We hit the 70s for the first time this year.
I sat in the sun for an hour, listening to the returning songbirds. Now I’m listening to Bill Evans's “Peace Piece.”
There’s no way to describe Spring, really. But this Bill Evans piece is a good start. Above an ostinato (regularly repeating) bass, which today was, for me, the first really warm sun mixing into the molecules of the naked skin, a melody flies randomly, effortlessly, full of imagination, freedom, and relief.
Yes, there is peace. "There is joy," we feel as the chill of winter retreats to the shadows. There is hope as we breathe deeply and let go of months of war, wages, winter, and disease.
