Stars, Stripes, and Posts--that is Post-liberals

I was with a friend heading up the mountain
To maybe catch a fish, then retreat from the sun.
We got to gushing like a couple fountains
When he went political, threatening the fun.

Now JD Vance has gone post-liberal,
He said.  What the hell is that, I asked.
Is that when a Liberal runs into a post?

I said.  U.S. history has always been a tussle back and forth, he said,
Between the individual and the state. To go post-liberal
Is a return to some strange medieval fate.

Can we gas through some history, he asked.
How does one with our American past
Get your head round a politics post-individual?  Be my guest.
Said I.  We've loads of time to waste.
